Sunday Sun
KIA'S best selling c'eed gets a new look for 2010 and a new ECO model has been be added to the range. The already excellent three and five-door hatch has been completely re-engineered and restyled, according to the company.
Review ; Honda Insight Es Pounds 17,290
THERE can be little doubt that cars like the Honda Insight form an important part of our motoring future as alternative methods of powering personal transport have to be invented. Unlike other petrol/electric hybrids, it never runs on the electric motor alone, not even at very low speeds.
Review ; Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8 Gs2 Pounds 14,648
STAKING its claim to fame in the Ford Focus-dominated small family car class is the latest Mitsubishi Lancer, a five-door hatch which the company call a sportback. It has a good-looking, rather aggressive shape and comes well equipped, with side skirts and big alloys.
Used Car ; Volkswagen Passat Tdi 140 From Pounds 8700
VOLKSWAGEN'S Passat has just been voted best secondhand car by a panel of experts, so who am I to argue? The latest model has been on the market for four years and has built an enviable reputation for reliability and long life. It has, in the way of all recent Passats, been available as a saloon or estate and with a huge variety of engine and trim options.
Used Car ; Kia Rio From Pounds 4200
I'VE driven both turbo diesel and petrol versions of Kia's latest Rio supermini and it is a cracking not-so-little car. A very reasonable new price undercuts mainstream competitors by at least pounds 1500 and means that it also comes cheaper a couple of years down the road.
JUST how did Mike Ashley make his millions? At some stage in his life he was a hugely successful entrepreneur as he made zillions flogging sports shirts. To achieve this he must have displayed a degree of business acumen which so far has not been evident in his dealings in charge of Newcastle United.
Hang Him? Hang On . . ; It's Not Such a Capital Idea
IF Gary Glitter was to be hanged tomorrow you would get barely a whimper of complaint from me or anyone else in this country. He's a low-life paedophile scum who doesn't deserve to walk free on this earth.
MORE updates on the MPs expenses farce. Apparently, Downing Street has said MPs won't have a say on the new expenses rules. And why the hell should they as what would be the point of giving the kids back the keys to the sweet shop? The news, inevitably, had some fuming. Some MP called Roger Gale had a pop at Sir Christopher Kelly, the chairman of the committee on standards in public life who looked into the whole expenses furore. Gale's point was that Kelly, left, did not know the hours MPs w...
Curry News a Bhuna for Cancer Sufferers
FANTASTIC news ... eating curry can cure cancer. According to scientists the chemical curcumin - found in the curry spice turmeric - kills off cancer cells and has already been tested as a treatment for arthritis and dementia. Now tests by a team at the Cork Cancer Research Centre have shown it can destroy cancer cells in the lab. Let's hope they can do the same at my local curry house too. If we're all thinking healthy, instead of washing down the spicy grub with a lager, switch to red wine,...
Not Keen On Halloween ; Door Stays Firmly Shut
CALL me boring but I refused to open my front door to trickor- treaters over Halloween. It's not my favourite time of year. The thought of pumpkin soup - or pumpkin brownies - doesn't really tantalise my tastebuds. But more than that, I'm wary of opening my door to strangers, however young they might be. That's quite depressing but I'm sure I'm not the only who feels this way. During the evening dog walk last week I encountered four young lads trickor-treating. Being a party-pooper, I decline...
SO what would you rename St James's Park after Mike Ashley's shock announcement last week? It's probably not that shocking, actually. Mike Ashley is a businessman. He wants to make as much money as possible from Newcastle United and the fans are of no interest to him. The goings-on since he arrived proved that. When he finally does offload the doom-laden, drama-filled club, Ashley will breathe a heavy sigh of relief.
LIFE can be full of surprises and here's one that I'm sharing with you exclusively. Make sure you tune into GMTV this coming week when I'll be presenting national weather forecasts live from its London studios.
IF I told you every week about his amusing moments there would be enough to fill a page, but BG was in a state of utter confusion on Friday. I heard him making an awful racket and rushed into the dining room to find him anxiously looking up at the window. Then he jumped up on my newly dusted window sill for a better look.
"Professional footballers - those virile young stags of our modern culture - are near perpetual fountains of sputum" - Entertainer Frank Skinner on their spitting habits. "I only really decided to act because I am crazy, it is quite masochistic" -Former Bond girl Eva Green. "Good luck to them. They are rich and they are happy, but they won't be in my autobiography" - TV presenter Kelly Brook on Ant and Dec whose attitude towards her, she claims, forced her to leave the TV show Britain's Got T...
CUMBRIA: A woman was attacked by four pit bull terriers as she walked her dogs in Penrith. Rebecca Salmon, 29, suffered bites to her neck, thigh and shoulder during the attack, which happened on Tuesday on Salkeld Road. The animals first attacked her dog before turning on her. Cumbria Police are investigating. NORTH YORKSHIRE: National Express East Coast is appealing a decision not to allow ticket barriers at York Railway Station. The company says it would cut fare dodging but objectors said ...
The world's largest cruise ship took on a nail-biting challenge yesterday when it negotiated a bridge with inches to spare. The Oasis of the Seas, five times larger than the Titanic, had to squeeze under the Great Belt Bridge, with a gap of just 1ft to spare, as it started its journey from Finland to its Florida home port.
