AT around pounds 21,500, the SsangYong Rexton has to be the big bargain 4x4 of the year. In size, economy and performance, the automatic version is very close to the Mitsubishi Shogun and not far behind the Mercedes M- Class.

THERE is nothing like a 140-mile trip covering all types of road to show up the best and the worst of a new car. It's marvellous that Renault have found a pleasing shape for the latest Megane but there is one drawback I had not expected.

Used Car ; Suzuki Grand Vitara From Pounds 1800
DON'T let the big wheels and tyres many owners fit to their Suzuki Vitaras fool you - they're just for show. Such massive wheels don't help at all off-road unless they're the right mud-plugger rubber and they don't do much for the rather average handling and road-holding either. In standard trim, the Suzuki is a strong off-road contender, even though most never see so much as a muddy field. But do check underneath for damage - just in case.
