Cops Quiz Man After Jockeys Die in Blaze

TWO young jockeys died and two other people are unaccounted for after an apparent arson attack. The victims, one of whom was named as promising Irish apprentice Jamie Kyne, perished in the early hours of yesterday. Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and a local man has been arrested.

Tractor Trouble at Trials

AN out-of-control tractor yesterday rolled down a hill and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to parked cars at a major horse trials where the Queen's granddaughter was competing. The driverless tractor hit at least two vehicles as it rumbled into a car park at the Burghley Horse Trials near Stamford, Lincs, an event which featured three-day event star Zara Phillips and a host of other leading riders.

A PENSIONER was given first aid by firefighters after a blaze started in her kitchen. Crews in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, were called to sheltered accommodation The Adelphi on Coldbath Road, shortly before 12pm yesterday.

Family Safe After Blaze

A FAMILY fled their home after a fire started in a bedroom. Residents of the property in Woolsington Road, in the Moor Park area of North Shields, North Tyneside, managed to escape when the blaze started yesterday morning. But one of the family suffered from smoke inhalation after trying to tackle the fire, and was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital.
