SINGIN' IN THE RAIN: While, oddly enough, not a massive hit when first released in 1952, it is now a widely acknowledged classic. It stars Gene Kelly (who also co-directs and does the choreography), Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds and offers a comic depiction of Hollywood, and its transition from silent films to "talkies".

WIZARD OF OZ: It's a movie that speaks of Hollywood's unacknowledged fascination with the exotic, the mad, the unreal. Judy Garland's wide-eyed innocence is countered by Margaret Hamilton as the cackling Witch of the West. The visual effects are breathtaking, but the true magic of The Wizard Of Oz is that it's for everyone.
