Summary
IT'S been 17 years since I last visited Liverpool with a former boyfriend. My memories of the city are vague; singing along to the famous Gerry & the Pacemakers track that was on a constant loop during the Mersey Ferry crossing, gazing in awe at the tiny stage in the hot and sweaty Cavern Club, snogging in Sefton Park.
There was none of that this time (thankfully for my friend Helen), and the place was almost unrecognisable. Last time it seemed a bit tatty round the edges, more rough and raw. This time a preponderance of new wine bars, posh boutiques and salubrious restaurants have polished up the industrial port no end, complimenting the plethora of Grade I-listed buildings and museums (more than any UK city except London).See the full content of this document
