IT emerged this week that universities want to raise tuition fees. Some vice-chancellors claim they need to raise fees by between pounds 4000 and a whopping pounds 20,000.

And that means that some people who desire a university education could still be paying for it in their fifties. That's a scary thought because by that time they'll probably be helping to finance their own kids through university. In an age where it's assumed most youngsters will go to university I'm pleased to say I didn't. My school wasn't too impressed when I announced I had no intention of going.
