CHEMOTHERAPY for breast cancer is given as an infusion, a combination of drugs specific to the patient, depending on factors such as the type of tumour and the patient's age and general health.

Most commonly, the drugs are drip-fed alternately with saline solution directly into a vein for anything between half an hour to several hours, before the patient is given a rest period of three to four weeks.
