A MUM who gave evidence against rapist cop Stephen Mitchell has broken her silence and revealed she hopes to pursue a civil case against the police.

The police officer was accused of indecent assault and misconduct in relation to the mum but was cleared of the charges. However the 42-year-old was convicted of sex attacks on other women he met while on duty and was last week ordered to serve two life sentences. The mum, of Walker, Newcastle, said she was disappointed Mitchell was cleared of the charges relating to her but that she hoped to take civil action against Northumbria Police. She said: "I was mortified that he was cleared of the charges but I'm really pleased for the girls who got guilty convictions against him.
