CUMBRIA: A radioactive disaster is to be simulated at a plant in Cumbria to help train emergency services. The fake radioactive leak will take place on a submarine being built by BAE in Barrow. Exercise Indigo takes place on Tuesday and will test the shipyard nuclear alert siren. Organisations taking place include the police, fire brigade, councils, Environment Agency and primary care trust.

NORTH YORKSHIRE: The families of soldiers killed in Iraq gathered at York Minster on Wednesday for a special memorial service. In June, 19 Light Brigade based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, completed a seven-month tour of duty during which 26 soldiers died. More than 130 members of the brigade were also wounded during the mission to improve security in southern Iraq. More than 2000 people attended the service.
