Summary
NORTHUMBERLAND: A crackdown on teenage troublemakers > plaguing part of Cramlington has led to the creation of a successful youth project to help keep them on the straight and narrow. In 2005, a dispersal order was carried out at the Brockwell Centre to tackle anti-social behaviour by gangs. In two years, police were called out more than 400 times to deal with flare-ups. The dispersal order was eventually lifted after proving successful, but the whole affair led to the formation of a project known as Spot - Spar Posse on Tour - after the Brockwell store where teenagers used to hang around. Its activities are built around teamwork and include promoting cultural links between Cramlington and overseas towns. It has been awarded 6600 from Northumberland County Council in recognition of the role it plays.
TYNESIDE: A massive 800m regeneration project that would revamp Newcastle city centre and provide thousands of new jobs was unveiled last week. The scheme will transform the heart of the city into a shoppers paradise, with a major new department store, leisure outlets, offices, hotels, housing and student accommodation. The focus will be on and around Pilgrim Street, where there are a number of dilapidated, empty buildings which will be demolished or renovated. The work is expected to start in 201 0 and be finished five years later.See the full content of this document
