A COUPLE who spent more than 10 years living in a Travelodge hotel went travelling after it closed for refurbishment, the company said. Pensioners David and Jean Davidson stayed at the budget hotel on the A1 at Grantham, Lincolnshire. They had been staying in Room One for so long that the company planned to rename it the Davidson Suite.

A BAN on whistling has been imposed in a coastal town in a bid to ensure good weather for a boating festival. The month-long ban in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, is intended to revive a maritime superstition which states that whistling at sea brings ill winds. The ban was made by the organisers of the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy.
