WEARSIDE LEAGUE HOLDERS Teesside Athletic reached the final of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup when they ended Ryhope CW's 12-match winning sequence.

The Teessiders had the incentive of an eighth-minute goal as Dale Mendum delivered a good cross and Daniel Drazdauskas scored with a glancing header. It took the Wearsiders only five minutes to equalise. David Newby quickly made ground down the right and his centre was fired home from six yards by John Butler. Before the interval the Teessiders regained the advantage with a fortunate goal. Ryhope goalkeeper Neil Atkinson punched a corner from Mendum and the ball rebounded from Neil Moan'shoulder into the net.
