AFTER a four-day camping trip with two little boys, aged 20 months and five years, we were ready - nay, desperate - for a bit of comfort and relaxation. The Pennington Hotel in Ravenglass, Cumbria, didn't disappoint.

We had a family suite for two nights in this 16th-Century former coaching inn, which is situated right at the very top west of the Lake District, on a peninsular where the rivers Esk, Mite and Irt form an estuary, and an EU Special Area of Conservation.
